Our name "Hekademia"...

...is rooted in the philosophical traditions of ancient Greece.

History

Our courses, technology, and philosophy are inspired by 15 years of successful instructional design at Virtual High School, our founding partner in Bayfield, Ontario.

Our name is rooted in the philosophical traditions of ancient Greece. Hekademia is the archaic name for Akademia, the sacred olive grove on which Plato founded his school of philosophy in 387 BC. Plato's academy was eventually destroyed in 86 BC, but his principles of enlightenment and inquisition persist into our modern age. We believe that, in some small way, we are part of this grand lineage.

We believe...

All students deserve respect, attention, and the chance to reach their full potential.

Vision

Every student is unique.  Some are bold and some are wise.  Some are shy and some are curious.  Some have all the answers and some have all the questions.  Some need a little help and some have help to give.

There is a student at the center of every Hekademia course. A student who may struggle or one who may thrive.  We believe that we are responsible to these students. When we choose the language of a lesson, we know it must reach our students.  When we write the plan for a project we know that it must inspire, engage, and excite.  We believe that all students deserve respect, attention, and the chance to reach their full potential.

What a time to be an educator! A time in which we can reach every student.  A time when human thought and intention are multiplied by the power of technology.  A time when society has chosen to invest in itself and in its children. Let us come together - teacher, designer, and educator - to use the resources of our age to provide the help that all students need.

Be there with us, where thoughtful instruction and innovative technology come together for remarkable results.
